Representation and Reality in the Medieval Church

 

The Second Annual Symposium on Medieval and Early Modern Studies

At Rowan University

On 31 July - 1 August 2015, Rowan University will host its Second Annual Symposium on Medieval and Early Modern Studies.  This year, the symposium is proud to be co-sponsored by Rowan University and the University of Kent.
 
Entitled 'Representation and Reality in the Medieval Church', papers from across the disciplines will be presented on the topic of the Church in medieval and early modern Europe.  Keynote presentations will be given by Dr. Barbara Bombi and Dr. Sarah James, both of the University of Kent, and Dr. Stephen Hague of Rowan University.  For more information on submitting abstracts or proposing sessions, please refer to the Call for Papers page.
 
All who wish to attend are welcome; attendees should register in advance via our Registration page.  Discounted advance registration will be available until 28 July; registration after this date will incur an extra fee.
 
All symposium events will once again be hosted on Rowan University's main campus in Glassboro, NJ, where a variety of accommodation options are available; for more information, please refer to the Accommodation page.

History

 

12-13 June 2014 marked the First Annual Symposium for Medieval and Early Modern Studies at Rowan University.  The symposium was entitled "Perspectives on Chivalry: Medieval to Modern," attracting scholars from as far afield as England, Australia, and the Ukraine, as well as from a number of different states.  Keynote presentations were given by Prof. Jeffrey Hamilton of Baylor University and Dr. Sarah James of the University of Kent.  A volume of collected essays from this first symposium is currently under negotiation with Ashgate.
